LESSON 1
u r n s
In August, I traveled to Upstate New York for a week-long florist residency at World's End Farm. On day 1, we dove in with a lesson in U R N S. And let me tell you, I LOVE AN URN. This is part 1 of a 5 part series on my week in Saipua.
First: we arrive on the farm and are immediately greeted by this barn. She's a beaut!
Here's the inside. She opens up to reveal a lily-covered pond. Idyllic! The barn houses our work tables that we'll spend most of our time at this week!
lesson
1. In this order: Foundation, Focus & Whisp.
2. You're building a solar system. This means that as you add pieces close to center, also fill out the outer realms, too. Flower heads shouldn't all rest evenly in the same plane. It's about dimension.
3. FEEL THE URN, BABY!
Looking in at the barn from the pond side.
A close up of the whisps that shouldn't be overlooked. Golden rod, Queen Anne's Lace, and (a personal favorite which surprised me) velvety coxcomb!
Here she is not quite done yet, but close.
Pink oak leaf hydrangea! They seem to be everywhere and always very lush in new england.
Me and Bobbi getting flowers from the farm!
